Dancing with Kristine Adams in Lima pt. 3

Basics of ATS with Kristine Adams

This class was invaluable to me. I haven’t had a lot of experience studying ATS, and getting the opportunity to take a small group workshop on ATS basics with Kristine Adams… incredible. The girl knows her ATS. Throughout my studies of belly dance, I’ve only had a small amount of the foundations and basic concepts of ATS under my belt. I needed the brush up. It had been quite a while, since I got a good overview of the foundations. I felt like I was able to keep up, which I was very thankful for. I was able to benefit from the class, and retain a lot of it. There were only four ladies taking this intensive, and I found it very beneficial. I was able to get corrected and have someone else look at what I was doing. It’s priceless to have an experienced dancer give another dancer pointers. A sign of a good teacher is one who pays enough attention to see the need for correction, then is successful at communicating how to achieve that correction. Kristine was really good about that with all the dancers in the room.

We spent a portion of the class practicing basic group improvisation, which I completely loved. I find it interesting to connect with another person when dancing. Especially, when you have to read the dancer and gauge them in ATS. We spent a lot of time working on eye contact with a partner, and discussed what “the connection” really meant. Eye contact exercises can be uncomfortable, and there were certainly many awkward giggles in the room. Regardless, we all had a great time. It was wonderful connecting with the other gals from Peru once again. I felt like we had so much fun, and knew it was going to be sad leaving Lima.
